February 7, 2024 –The Throwdown Series is thrilled to announce that both the Okanagan Valley Throwdown and the Fraser Valley Throwdown in 2024 have been officially licensed by CrossFit, marking a significant milestone for competitive fitness events in Western Canada.
In response to CrossFit's new program to elevate the standards for competitive events, the organizers diligently worked through an application process to meet the stringent criteria set forth by CrossFit. Carianne Meti, CrossFit Canada manager, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, "This collaboration signifies a monumental step towards enhancing the quality and value of competitive fitness events in our community, especially in Western Canada."
Jennifer Metituk, Throwdown Series organizer, shared her excitement, stating, "Achieving the official event licensed status for our 2024 events is a testament to our team's dedication to leveling up our competitions and providing enhanced experiences for athletes and sponsors alike. We look forward to forging ahead with CrossFit Canada and the community."
The Okanagan Valley Throwdown, now in its 11th year, will take place on April 20th and 21st in Penticton, British Columbia and registrations are currently open and almost to capacity. Meanwhile, the Fraser Valley Throwdown, previously held in Abbotsford, will be hosted at the Richmond Olympic Oval from September 27th to 29th, 2024, marking its return since the pandemic hiatus.
These events hold special significance as they provide a platform for athletes ranging from 13 to 70 years old, spanning from beginners to seasoned competitors, to showcase their skills either individually or in groups of three.
Furthermore, these competitions serve as a catalyst for economic growth by attracting athletes from across the region, thereby spotlighting the unique offerings of each city and generating substantial economic benefits for the local community.
Throwdown Series extends its gratitude to the athletes, volunteers, and CrossFit community whose unwavering support has been instrumental in the success of these events.
