Okanagan Valley Throwdown 2025: Big Energy, Big Moments, and Even Bigger Community

The 2025 Okanagan Valley Throwdown (OVT) kicked off this year’s Throwdown Series with an unforgettable weekend of grit, teamwork, and epic finishes.

Hosted at the stunning Penticton Lakeside Resort & Conference Centre, the event welcomed athletes from 29 gyms across British Columbia and Alberta—from seasoned veterans to rookies stepping onto the competition floor for the first time.

With events that tested Olympic lifting, gymnastics, running, and more, the weekend was a true celebration of functional fitness. And for the first time ever, thanks to warm spring weather, the Throwdown hosted an outdoor event, adding a new layer of challenge (and excitement) to the competition.

Unforgettable Performances

From individual moments of triumph to tight team finishes, the OVT delivered.

One standout was 14-year-old Lucian Aprille of CrossFit Vernon, who earned gold in his first-ever Throwdown. Competing against older, more experienced athletes, Lucian’s performance was mature beyond his years—showing just how inclusive and powerful the sport can be.

More Than a Competition

The Throwdown isn’t just about medals—it's about moments. Crowds of family, friends, and training partners packed the venue, creating an electric atmosphere that made every heat feel like a final.

To cap it all off, the medal ceremonies were held on the beach, framed by mountain views and Okanagan Lake. Athletes wrapped up the weekend with a team cold plunge, making it an experience they won’t soon forget.

Built by the Community, For the Community

The Throwdown Series is led by Jennifer and Dave Metituk, also new owners of Beach City Fitness. Their mission? To create accessible, high-energy competitions where athletes of all levels can push themselves, connect with others, and grow.

With the support of dozens of local volunteers and the talents of the Penticton Photography Club, OVT 2025 was a true team effort.
