Throwdown Series 2026-27: Bigger, More Connected, Still Built for Athletes

The Throwdown Series has always been about creating opportunities for athletes to challenge themselves, connect with their community, and experience the excitement of competition. As we prepare for the 2026-27 season, we're introducing some exciting changes that will make the series more connected than ever while staying true to the values that have made it Western Canada's largest functional fitness competition series.

What's New This Season

A True Season Championship

For the first time, the Fraser Valley Throwdown (FVT), Bow Valley Throwdown (BVT), and Okanagan Valley Throwdown (OVT) are being connected through a season-long championship.

Beginning with FVT in September, continuing through BVT, and culminating at OVT in April, athletes will have the opportunity to earn points through event participation and a series-wide workout challenge. Athletes will be ranked against others in their division throughout the season, culminating in the crowning of the Fittest in Western Canada in each division.

Whether you're RX, Intermediate, Scaled, Masters, Teen, or competing as a Trio, you'll have the opportunity to see how you stack up across the entire season.

Introducing Teen Rec

One of the most exciting additions this year is the new Teen Rec Division.

Our goal is to meet young athletes where they are in their fitness journey and provide an age-appropriate opportunity to gain competition experience in a supportive environment.

Not every teen is ready for advanced movement standards or a full weekend of competition. The Teen Rec Division is designed specifically for beginner and developing athletes who want to experience the excitement of competition, challenge themselves, and build confidence on the competition floor.

This division will feature a one-day, three-workout competition format, making it accessible for athletes and families while still delivering the energy, fun, and community that make the Throwdown Series special.

Whether a teen comes from a CrossFit gym, another sport, or simply wants to try their first functional fitness competition, this division provides a welcoming entry point into the sport.

What Isn't Changing

While we're excited about what's ahead, the heart of the Throwdown Series remains the same.

Competitions for All Levels

From first-time competitors to seasoned athletes, we'll continue to provide divisions that allow everyone to challenge themselves in an environment that is both competitive and welcoming.

Our mission remains to create events where athletes can test their fitness, celebrate their accomplishments, and leave inspired to continue their journey.

Professional Event Experience

Athletes can continue to expect professionally programmed workouts, quality judging, organized event operations, great venues, and an athlete-first experience from registration through to the awards ceremony.

Community First

The Throwdown Series has always been about more than workouts and scores. It is about the friendships formed on the competition floor, the support from fellow athletes, and the incredible communities that show up year after year.

The Spirit of the Throwdown Award

One tradition we're especially proud to continue is the Spirit of the Throwdown Award.

While the Throwdown Series celebrates athletic achievement, we've always believed that great competitions are built by great communities. This award recognizes the gym that best embodies the values of the Throwdown Series through sportsmanship, encouragement, volunteerism, team spirit, and a positive impact on those around them.

The Spirit of the Throwdown Award exists because the success of the Throwdown Series doesn't come from one athlete, one gym, or one event. It comes from the communities that show up year after year to support athletes, volunteer, judge, cheer, and create an environment where everyone feels welcome to compete.

As the Throwdown Series continues to grow and evolve, we remain committed to recognizing and celebrating the gyms and communities that make functional fitness stronger across Western Canada. Their support, passion, and commitment are the foundation that allows the series to thrive.

Looking Ahead

The 2026-27 season represents the next chapter of the Throwdown Series.

By connecting our events into one season-long championship, creating more opportunities for youth athletes, and continuing to celebrate the communities that make these events possible, we're building something that extends beyond a single competition weekend.

Whether you're chasing a podium finish, stepping onto the competition floor for the first time, supporting your gym, or competing for the title of Fittest in Western Canada in your division, we can't wait to see you this season.

Three events. One championship. One community.
